This page explains how SA Daily decides what to publish and what we do when we get something wrong.
Accuracy
- We check facts against reliable sources before we publish, and we name our sources where we can.
- We tell readers when a story is based on a single source, a press statement or an unconfirmed report.
- Headlines must match the story. We do not publish misleading headlines to win clicks.
Older stories (Throwback)
Throwback stories are checked against archives, books and official records. Where accounts differ, we say so. If you know of a better source, please tell us.
Pen names and bylines
Some contributors write under pen names. Their stories are edited and approved like any other. A pen name never changes our duty to be accurate and fair.
Photos and credits
We credit photographers and sources. We only use images we own, have permission to use, or that carry a licence that allows it. [Say whether you use AI-generated images and how they are labelled.]
How we use technology
[Say honestly whether AI tools help with research, writing or translation, and that a person always checks and approves the final story.]
Comments
We welcome comments and moderate them. We remove comments that are abusive, defamatory, unlawful, spam or that share private information.
Corrections
If we get something wrong, we fix it quickly and add a note at the bottom of the story saying what changed and when. To report an error, email [CORRECTIONS EMAIL ADDRESS] with the link to the story and what is wrong.
Right of reply
If a story criticises a person or organisation, we try to give them a fair chance to respond before we publish.
